## Project overview

Fans mounted under a canopy bring airflow to a semi-open site where ducted air conditioning is impractical.

## The challenge

A semi-open work station under a canopy receives full radiant heat in summer. Enclosed air conditioning is meaningless in an open space, and misting systems introduced moisture problems around equipment.

## Our solution

Weather-rated HVLS fans were mounted directly to the canopy structure, throwing a wide, gentle air column over the work areas. Electricals are IP-protected and mounting hardware is specified for outdoor exposure.

## Equipment

- Outdoor canopy mount- Factory-direct supply with export documentation- Professional rigging and commissioning by the TierCooling team

## Results

Effective cooling in a fully open-air setting, no added humidity, and a far lower installed cost than any mechanical cooling alternative.

## FAQ

### Can HVLS fans be installed in semi-open outdoor stations?

Yes. Mounted under a canopy or roof structure, HVLS fans deliver airflow to semi-open sites where ducted air conditioning is impractical. The key requirements are a secure mounting point and enough clearance for blade rotation.

### Do HVLS fans still work without enclosed walls?

Airflow coverage is lower in open sites than in enclosed buildings because air is not recirculated. Fan diameter, mounting height and unit placement should therefore be selected for the specific layout, often using multiple units for larger semi-open areas.

### How much area does one HVLS ceiling fan cover?

Coverage depends on fan diameter and mounting height. Industrial HVLS fans typically cover from several hundred to over a thousand square metres per unit, which is why they replace rows of small high-speed fans.

### What maintenance do outdoor HVLS fans need?

Outdoor installations need periodic checks of sealed motors, blade fixings and corrosion protection. Compared with ducted systems, maintenance points are fewer and accessible at the fan unit itself.
