## Project overview

Large-diameter fans mounted on the arena’s steel trusses provide gentle whole-hall air circulation between events.

## The challenge

A multi-purpose arena sits empty for most of the week but must reach comfortable conditions quickly before events. Its high roof volume stratifies heat, and portable cooling units were noisy and obstructed seating conversion.

## Our solution

Large-diameter HVLS fans were hung from the steel trusses at engineered drop rods with vibration isolators. Between events the fans run continuously at low speed to destratify the whole hall; during events they can be staged or stopped as needed.

## Equipment

- Large-diameter HVLS · steel-truss mount- Factory-direct supply with export documentation- Professional rigging and commissioning by the TierCooling team

## Results

Faster pre-event cool-down, uniform conditions from floor to seating, and zero encroachment on the multi-use floor plan.

## FAQ

### How many HVLS fans does a stadium or indoor arena need?

Large-span venues are covered with a grid of units rather than one fan. The exact count comes from span, roof height and seating layout, aiming for uniform coverage across stands and field zones.

### Can HVLS fans be retrofitted without damaging roof steel?

Yes. Retrofit mounting uses engineered brackets fixed to existing steelwork after a load calculation, with vibration checks and safety cables as standard practice.

### Do HVLS fans replace air conditioning in arenas?

In most venues they work as a hybrid: airflow lets cooling setpoints rise and reduces the number of local units running, cutting energy use while keeping perceived comfort.

### Can fans run differently on event days and idle days?

Yes. Variable-speed control and zoning let venues run higher airflow during events and slow circulation or winter destratification modes otherwise.
