At present, air pollution is a very serious problem in China, and industrial waste gas is a major source of air pollutants. Organic waste gas is the most difficult type of industrial waste gas to treat. After entering the human body through the respiratory tract and skin, organic waste gas may cause temporary and permanent diseases of the respiratory system, blood, liver and other systems and organs, posing a great hazard to human health. Organic waste gas is difficult to degrade in the natural environment, so controlling it has always been a key and difficult task. Organic waste gas treatment refers to reducing oil losses and organic solvent use or purifying exhaust gas through various technical measures to eliminate organic waste gas pollution. Sources of organic waste gas pollution are widely distributed. To prevent pollution, in addition to reducing oil losses and organic solvent consumption to reduce the generation and emission of organic waste gas, common types of organic waste gas include: formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene and other benzene-series compounds, acetone, ethyl acetate, oil mist, furfural, styrene, acrylic acid, resins, additives, paint mist, Thinner and other air purification treatments of organic substances containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Exhaust gas purification is currently a feasible treatment method. The following Guangdong Rundongfang Environmental Air Conditioning Factory has compiled the available information and introduces 12 organic waste gas treatment methods currently widely used in China.

Methods for treating organic waste gas: 1. Organic waste gas treatment method — condensation recovery method: Working principle: The condensation method uses multi-stage continuous cooling to lower the temperature of hydrocarbon components in the mixed oil vapor below their condensation points, turning them from gaseous to liquid state. Apart from water vapor, the air remains gaseous, thereby achieving separation of oil vapor from air, and valuable organic compounds can be recovered. Advantages and disadvantages: Its key components, the compressor and throttling mechanism, are all produced locally, with low investment and operating costs; the cutting equipment is simple, highly automated, easy to maintain, safe, and the output liquid oil can be used directly. However, auxiliary refrigeration equipment is required and the system process is relatively complex. Applicable conditions: Organic compounds in organic waste gas with high concentration, low temperature and small air volume that have recovery value.

2. Organic waste gas treatment method — adsorption method: Working principle: Waste gas is adsorbed by activated carbon. After adsorption saturation, the activated carbon is desorbed and regenerated. This is a purification technology widely used in China’s industrial organic waste gas treatment. Now there has been a new breakthrough in organic solvent recovery, and organic waste gas can be recycled. Advantages and disadvantages: High purification efficiency and low cost. Disadvantages: Regeneration is difficult and continuous replacement is required. The equipment is bulky, the process is complex, and operating costs are high. It is not suitable for high-humidity environments. When colloidal particles or other impurities are present in the waste gas, the adsorbent is easily poisoned. Applicable conditions: Mainly used for treating low-concentration, high-throughput volatile organic compounds. It adsorbs benzene-series waste gas well, but poorly adsorbs hydrocarbon waste gas. 3. Organic waste gas treatment method — biological method: Working principle: Using the life processes of microorganisms, gaseous pollutants in waste gas are decomposed and converted into minimal or harmless substances. There are various kinds of microorganisms in nature, and almost all inorganic and organic pollutants can be transformed. Advantages and disadvantages: The equipment is simple, energy consumption is low, it is safe and reliable, and there is no secondary pollution. Disadvantage: Pollutants cannot be recovered.

4. Organic waste gas treatment method — liquid absorption method: Working principle: The liquid absorption method uses the principle of similar dissolution between the liquid absorbent and organic waste gas. A mixture of liquid petroleum substances, surfactants and water is commonly used as the absorption liquid to enhance absorption. The absorption liquid is introduced into the waste gas for purification; after the absorption liquid is saturated, it is heated, desorbed, condensed and recovered. Advantages and disadvantages: It can be reused. Disadvantages: It requires heating desorption recovery equipment; the equipment is bulky and the investment is large. Applicable conditions: This method is suitable for waste gas with large volume, low temperature and low concentration.

5. Organic waste gas treatment method — direct combustion method: Working principle: A method in which organic waste gas is introduced into a combustion chamber to burn in direct contact with the flame, burning and decomposing the combustible components in the waste gas. This method is divided into two combustion types: without auxiliary fuel and with auxiliary fuel. If the concentration of combustible pollutants in the waste gas is high and the calorific value is high, the former is chosen, and burning the waste gas alone can maintain the combustion temperature (above 800℃). If the concentration of combustible pollutants in the waste gas is low and the calorific value is low, auxiliary fuel must be added to maintain the combustion temperature (600–800℃); the latter is chosen. Advantages and disadvantages: The direct combustion method has a simple process and small investment; management is simple, maintenance is easy, and reliability is high; however, the treatment temperature is high, fuel consumption is large, and requirements for safety technology and operation are high. Applicable conditions: Suitable for waste gas with high concentration and small air volume.

6. Organic waste gas treatment method — adsorption and catalytic combustion method: Working principle: This method uses honeycomb activated carbon for adsorption; when the activated carbon is nearly saturated, hot air is introduced for desorption and analysis. After desorption, the waste gas is introduced into a catalytic combustion bed and burned without flame for thorough purification. Advantages and disadvantages: Combining the advantages of the adsorption method and the catalytic combustion method, hot air is recycled in the system, greatly reducing energy consumption, with the features of stable and reliable operation, investment savings, low operating cost and easy maintenance. Applicable conditions: Suitable for treating waste gas with large air volume and low concentration, it is currently a relatively mature and practical method for treating organic waste gas in China.

7. Organic waste gas treatment method — absorption method: Working principle: The waste gas is introduced into an absorption liquid for purification; after the absorption liquid is saturated, it is heated, desorbed, condensed and recovered; this method is suitable for waste gas with large volume, low temperature and low concentration. Taking advantage of the fact that organic waste gas is easily soluble in water, the waste gas comes into direct contact with water and dissolves in it, achieving the effect of removing the waste gas. Advantages and disadvantages: The process is simple, management is convenient, and equipment operating costs are low. Disadvantages: Secondary pollution is produced, the washing liquid needs to be treated, purification efficiency is low, and the equipment is bulky with large investment. Applicable conditions: Suitable for water-soluble organic gases from organized emission sources. Description of 12 commonly used organic waste gas treatment methods in China

8. Organic waste gas treatment method — nano micro-electrolytic oxidation method: Working principle: Nano micro-electrolytic purification technology uses nano-processed piezoelectric materials. Electrical adsorption by nano micro-electrolytic materials can be generated through a micro-electrolytic electric field, releasing a large number of hydroxyl negative ions to purify aerobic pollutants in the gas. Under certain humidity, most organic matter in the air can be removed. Applicable conditions: Analyzing inorganic odors such as ammonia nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide.

9. Organic waste gas treatment method — thermal combustion method: Working principle: Using a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) to treat organic waste gas can achieve the dual effects of high efficiency and energy saving. Applicable conditions: Suitable for a wide range of organic waste gas treatment with high treatment efficiency, widely used in coating, printing, spray painting, pharmaceutical and other industries.

10. Organic waste gas treatment method — waste gas scrubbing tower: Working principle: The scrubbing tower is a waste gas treatment technology that has a significant absorption and dissolution effect on industrial waste gases such as acid mist waste gas treatment, alkaline mist waste gas treatment, and paint waste gas treatment; organic waste gas treatment, chemical waste gas adsorption, oxidation-reduction, and acid-base neutralization comply with national industrial waste gas emission standards. Applicable conditions: Suitable for a wide range of organic waste gas treatment with high treatment efficiency, widely used in spray booths, paint spraying rooms, paint baking rooms and other industries.

11. Organic waste gas treatment method — low-temperature plasma technology: Working principle: During the dielectric barrier discharge process in a low-temperature plasma waste gas treatment device, particles rich in chemical activity such as electrons, ions, free radicals and excited-state molecules are generated in the plasma. Pollutants in the waste gas react with these high-energy active groups and are finally converted into CO2, H2O and other substances, thereby achieving the purpose of purifying the waste gas. Applicable conditions: Wide range of application and high purification efficiency, especially suitable for multi-component odorous gases in chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries that are difficult to treat with other methods. The electron energy is high, so almost all odor molecules can be affected. Advantages and disadvantages: Low operating cost, fast reaction, very fast equipment start-up and shutdown, ready to use at any time. Disadvantages: Relatively high one-time investment and potential safety hazards.

12. Organic waste gas treatment method — photocatalytic oxidation: Working principle: The technology of photocatalytic waste gas treatment equipment is a special treatment method that uses a special ultraviolet wavelength band (C-band) to break up waste gas molecules, which are then further oxidized and reduced under the action of a special catalytic oxidizer. Waste gas molecules are first broken up by high-energy ultraviolet light waves of the special wavelength band, breaking their molecular chains; at the same time, by decomposing oxygen and water in the air, high-concentration ozone can be obtained, which further absorbs energy to form free hydroxyl groups with higher oxidizing properties that oxidize the waste gas molecules. Meanwhile, various composite inert catalysts are configured according to different waste gas components, greatly improving the speed and efficiency of waste gas treatment, thereby achieving the purpose of purifying the waste gas.
