# How to Install a Large Industrial Fan: Installation Steps and Methods

How do you install a large industrial fan? Here are the correct installation methods and steps. Because large industrial fans are mounted by hanging from the roof, proper installation is especially important. Correct installation not only reduces the failure rate of the fan, but most importantly ensures user safety and operational stability. A fan like this, with blades 7.3 meters in diameter, weighs at least 100 jin (about 50 kg) even at its lightest—if it were to fall from a height of several or even a dozen meters, it would be a serious problem. So what exactly are the correct installation methods and steps for a large industrial fan?

## Large Industrial Fan Installation Specifications at a Glance

**Quick answer:** a 7.3-meter large industrial fan is mounted by hanging from the roof structure in 7 steps — fix the base plate with M16×70 high-strength bolts, hang and level the main unit with 4 sets of M16×140 high-strength bolt assemblies, add a Φ6 mm steel wire safety rope, tension 4 steel wire tie rods until the fan body’s horizontal angle is less than 0.2 degrees, connect the cables, mount the blades with M10×60 bolts, and close with the blade safety ring using M8×70 bolts.

This procedure applies to HVLS large industrial fans used in factories, warehouses and other commercial buildings.

Large industrial fan installation steps: 1. Install the mounting base plate. Determine the base plate position according to the installation location (mark with layout lines); both sides of the base plate must be equidistant, and the base plate must be perpendicular (crosswise) to the mounting beam. The top surface of the shim plate must fit tightly against the I-beam. After the clamp plate is joined with the I-beam and the shim plate is leveled, tighten with M16*70 high-strength bolts. Other fixing methods must meet the same standard.

2. Install the main unit. The fan main unit is quite heavy, so take special care during installation. Use a spirit level to measure and ensure the extension rod is installed vertically at 90 degrees. If the roof beam itself has a slope, adjust the verticality via the half-moon bolt holes on the base plate and the frame lifting lugs. During installation, the upper and lower planes of the main unit must be level to ensure the fan body hangs naturally. Measure with a level, then tighten all fasteners (4 sets of M16×140 high-strength bolt assemblies), as shown in Figure 13. For the M16×70 high-strength bolts, clamp plate, shim plate, base plate, and I-beam roof beam: the shim plate here must press tightly against the I-beam; if the thickness is not suitable, additional auxiliary shim plates must be added to ensure all parts fit tightly together. The bent portion of the clamp plate here must press tightly against the shim plate to prevent loosening.

3. Install the safety rope. Wrap a 6mm steel wire rope around the factory building beam to connect the fan main unit to the beam, then lock it with wire rope clips for enhanced safety protection.

4. Install the steel wire tie rods. First determine the fixing positions of the 4 steel wire tie rods around the perimeter, use lifting equipment to drill and position the holes, then begin securing the wire ropes using the method shown in Figure 15. When tightening the wires, note that the four extension rod M16×140 high-strength bolts, the Φ6 steel wire rope connecting the main unit directly to the building beam, and the wires must be of appropriate length, equidistant, and symmetrical, with even tension. Adjust the fan hub to a horizontal position by tightening the four wire ropes. Use a level correctly and measure at multiple positions to ensure the fan body’s horizontal angle is less than 0.2 degrees. After tightening the wire rope clips and turnbuckles, apply thread-locking adhesive (Loctite-243) to prevent the wire ropes from loosening under tension.

5. Connect the main unit and install the cables. Do not scratch the cable surface, and do not cut the copper wires when stripping. First connect the grounding wire (the thin black wire), match the colors correctly, then wrap securely with insulating tape to ensure safe operation of the product. Then route the cable out through the frame and lay the wiring as appropriate for the site conditions.

6. Install the blades. It is best to have two people cooperate when installing the blades. Use M10×60 high-strength reamed-hole bolts to fix the blades, installing them diagonally to ensure even loading. Do not scratch the blade surfaces to ensure a secure fastening. After the blades are installed, thread the steel wire ropes running through the blade interiors from bottom to top through their corresponding eyebolt holes, join the two rope ends at the upper part of the blade handle, secure them with the appropriate wire rope clips, and finally cut off the excess wire rope with wire rope cutters. For safety: 4 Φ6 steel wire tie rods, 8 wire rope clips to lock the wire ropes, 4 turnbuckle locks, and 4 eyebolts fixed to the main unit. When installing the logo, snap the LOGO cap onto the bottom of the hub, then fasten with M5×16 bolts and apply thread-locking adhesive.

7. Install the blade safety ring. When installing the blade connecting plates, ensure that when the two connecting plates are joined, the cross-shaped hole is on the bottom and the round hole is on top. Install them in sequence with M8×70 high-strength bolts to form a ring connecting all the blades together, and finally apply thread-locking adhesive to ensure reliable fan operation.

After the main body installation is preliminarily completed with these seven steps, proceed with commissioning of the Dongguan large industrial fan equipment and installation of the control system, and the entire large industrial fan installation is complete. During installation, be sure to pay attention to detail—any imperfect detail could compromise the stability and safety of the entire large industrial fan system. Installation experience is very important.

### What bolts are used to install a large industrial fan?

The base plate uses M16×70 high-strength bolts, the main unit uses 4 sets of M16×140 high-strength bolt assemblies, the blades use M10×60 high-strength reamed-hole bolts fitted diagonally, the blade safety ring uses M8×70 high-strength bolts, and the LOGO cap is fastened with M5×16 bolts.

### How level does a large industrial fan need to be?

Use a spirit level and measure at multiple positions: the fan body’s horizontal angle must be less than 0.2 degrees, and the extension rod must stand vertically at 90 degrees. Sloped roof beams are corrected through the half-moon bolt holes on the base plate and the frame lifting lugs.

### What safety features are installed with a large industrial fan?

A Φ6 mm steel wire rope wraps around the building beam and connects the main unit to the beam, and the blades are secured with 4 Φ6 steel wire tie rods locked by 8 wire rope clips, 4 turnbuckle locks and 4 eyebolts. Loctite-243 thread-locking adhesive is applied to prevent the ropes from loosening.

### How heavy is a large industrial fan?

A fan with 7.3-meter blades weighs at least 100 jin (about 50 kg) even at its lightest, which is why correct hanging installation and a dedicated safety rope are essential.
