# Large-Diameter HVLS Ceiling Fan

**Large-diameter HVLS ceiling fans move more air with less energy than any other fan type.** The RDF range spans six swept diameters - 3.6, 4.2, 5.2, 6.2, 6.7 and 7.2 m (12-24 ft) - all on the same gearless PMSM servo direct-drive platform, from 4,522 to 15,197 m3/min at 0.66-1.3 kW. This page carries the complete model table so you can size by floor area rather than by price.

## Why projects specify this RDF HVLS fan

- **Gearless PMSM servo direct drive.** The permanent-magnet synchronous motor is built into the hub - no gearbox, no oil, no seals to service. Independent conformity assessment covers EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and LVD 2014/35/EU for the drive motor.
- **Very large air volume, very low input.** Up to 15,197 m3/min from 1.3 kW installed power, with typical consumption below 1 kWh per hour in normal operation.
- **Quiet by design.** Six airfoil-section blades turn at 55-90 rpm, keeping sound below 38-39 dB(A) - quieter than typical office background noise.
- **Engineered for safety overhead.** One-piece anodised aviation-grade Al-Mg blades with six reinforcement ribs and T6 heat treatment, on a 45# steel petiole with the patented starfish-claw triple-bolt anti-drop hub.
- **IP64 sealed motor.** Dust- and splash-protected, brushless and maintenance-free, with a separate protection-grade test report on file.
- **Smart vector control.** Infinitely variable speed, soft IPD start, RFI filtering and overload protection; the 7.2 m model has independent type-test reports for both 220 V and 380 V builds.

Airflow at maximum speed per the manufacturer type test; running speed is infinitely variable. The 5.2 m model's printed "14 ft" in the source brochure is a brochure typo; the manufacturer's Chinese-market spec table lists 5.2 m = 17 ft, the correct conversion.

## Choosing the right diameter

HVLS efficiency scales with diameter: a slow, wide column of air travels further and feels more natural than a fast narrow jet. Choose by coverage and mounting height:

- **3.6 m / 4.2 m (O 20-26 m coverage)** - low-bay workshops, retail, gyms and dining areas with 4.5-7 m ceilings.
- **5.2 m (O 25-30 m)** - the versatile default for general manufacturing, supermarkets and function halls.
- **6.2 m / 6.7 m (O 32-40 m)** - warehouses, logistics centres and sports halls at 7-12 m.
- **7.2 m (O 38-44 m, ~1,450 m2)** - high-bay storage, exhibition centres and large production bays.

Every model uses the same blade aerodynamics, anodised Al-Mg construction, IP64 direct-drive motor and vector controller, so mixed installations - larger fans over open bays, smaller ones over offices or mezzanines - behave and sound the same.

## Frequently asked questions

### Are larger fans better, or should I use more small fans?

For open ceiling space one large fan beats several small ones on energy and uniformity: airflow scales with swept area while power grows slowly. Small fans only make sense where ceilings are low or the floor plan is divided into rooms.

### Do all sizes use the same motor?

The 3.6-5.2 m models use a 0.66 kW PMSM unit (3.0 A); the 6.2-7.2 m models use 1.3 kW (4.4 A at 220 V / 3.0 A at 380 V). Both are brushless, gearless and IP64 with the same vector-drive family.

### What ceiling height is required?

Roughly 4.5-15 m; blade tip should remain at least 3 m above occupied floor level in comfort applications. Tell us your height and we confirm model and drop-rod length.

### Can I mix single-phase and three-phase fans in one building?

Yes. The 6.2-7.2 m models come in both supplies with the same controller interface, so a site can mix 380 V fans in production areas with 220 V units in offices or retail zones.

## FAQ

### What does HVLS mean?

High Volume, Low Speed: large-diameter ceiling fans that move a very large air volume at low rotational speed, covering big floor areas with gentle, even airflow instead of concentrated high-speed blasts.

### Why choose a PMSM direct-drive HVLS fan?

Permanent-magnet synchronous motors with direct drive run at high efficiency with fewer wearing parts than geared designs - meaning lower energy use, quieter operation and less maintenance over the fan's life.

### Which sites use HVLS ceiling fans?

Typical applications include factories, warehouses, gyms and sports halls, markets and malls, playgrounds and sports fields, and livestock farms - any large space where uniform airflow and lower energy cost matter.

### How is fan size and unit count decided?

Selection comes from floor area, mounting height and the obstruction layout of the site; suppliers model diameter and placement from drawings so airflow reaches working zones evenly.
